What is a Stove Starter Kit?

At Stonewoods, we want you to have the best experience with your new woodburning or multifuel stove from the start. This is why we put together a comprehensive starter kit that will start you off using your stove efficiently and enjoy it to its full potential.

Items included in the kit:

Log Moisture Meter

A Log moisture meter will help you check whether you are burning the right fuel. For clean and efficient wood burning you should be using kiln dried or seasoned logs with moisture content not exceeding 20%. Burning logs with moisture over 20% would lower the heat output, create more smoke and lead to increased creosote build-up in the chimney, which can be a fire hazard so it’s best to check! The log moisture meter included in our stove starter kit is an easy to use battery operated digital device with two pins you simply insert into the grain of the log and its accurate reading will give you peace of mind.

Stove Pipe Thermometer

A stove pipe thermometer is an essential tool used to ensure that the stove is operating efficiently and safely. It helps you keep the stove operating within the ideal temperature range for combustion. Typically, a stove pipe thermometer should read between 150°C to 260°C for optimal efficiency. If the temperature is too low, it could indicate incomplete combustion, which leads to more smoke, creosote buildup, and lower heat output. If the temperature is too high, it could mean the stove is overheating which can increase the risk of a chimney fire and damage to your stove. By maintaining an appropriate stove temperature, you can ensure that the wood is burning efficiently. This means you get more heat from the same amount of fuel, saving money on firewood and reducing emissions.

Stove Glass Cleaning Sponge

Providing fuel with the right amount of moisture is being burned and the stove air controls are operated correctly, the stove glass window should stay clean. However on the odd occasion where perhaps a log has rolled too close to the glass, stained it and the stove wasn’t running long enough after to burn the mark off, you might need to give it the occasional clean. With our starter kit you will be equipped with a designated stove glass cleaning sponge, which will simply wipe off any debris without the risk of scratches.

Logs, Kindling and Flamers

We can imagine you cannot wait to get your fire started so we have included 2 bags of kiln dried logs from a reputable and sustainable source, along with kindling and a box of flamers. Please see our recommendation on Lighting Up a Fire In Your Stove and enjoy.
